An open letter to the congressional representatives of the great state of North Carolina who are refusing to attend the inauguration of President-elect Trump. If you are attending, please forward this letter to our fellow members of Congress who are either not attending or considering not attending:
Dear Honorable North Caroline Member of Congress;
The inauguration of the President of the US is a long-standing symbol of the peaceful transition of leadership that has been part of the history of our great country since its inception. By refusing to attend the inauguration, you are violating our long-standing tradition. Although you may not agree with the majority of the country who elected President-elect Trump, the inauguration is not the place to show our disagreement by disrespecting the office of President.
Some of you have said you prayed about it and can’t, in good conscience, attend. Did you read your Bible? The basis of prayer is the truth of God as found in the Bible. We are told in scripture to pray for and honor those in authority. For example, 1 Sam 24:6 talks about respecting the authority of those over us and Romans 13:1-2 says, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except by God’s appointment, and the authorities that exist have been instituted by God. So the person who resists such authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will incur judgment.” 1 Timothy 1-2 tells us to pray for those in authority.
It is our prayer that you will reconsider your decision and properly honor the great office of the President of the United States.
Sincerely;
WJ and SS Borden, Cary, NC
